I often want to resolve the tension between my anxious rational side and my optimistic spiritual side. It feels like an uncomfortable state of limbo that I can’t escape until I figure out which method is “right”. Logic is fueled by doubt – it longs for a certainty that humans don’t have access to. Spirituality asks us to trust in ways that often feel dangerous. Delusional. But as long as we are forced to face unresolvable ambiguity, I think it’s best to lean into the discomfort. It’s not a sign that something is wrong – it’s a sign that you’re invested in life and engaged with its mysteries. Just like you need both eyes for proper depth perception, I think reason and woowoo are actually meant to be used together. You just need to know which approach should take the lead in each situation. If you are sick, maybe defer to medical science and only use holistic methods as a supplement. But if you are at a crossroads in your career or life path, maybe you’ll get more clarity by quieting the logical mind a little bit and letting feelings come to you through intuition, through a ritual like tarot or just meditation.
