Not much to write with this one – just sharing a pair of videos I felt compelled to make. The first one is an art tips video, where I share some of the things I’ve found helpful over the years when tackling stylized portraits.
The second one is purely a guilty pleasure – I’ve been bumping Kesha’s new album on repeat for weeks, and as I was making my art video, I realized how stupidly perfect her song Red Flag was for Ned. This video is….I don’t know the lingo any more, I feel like it’s too long to be a fan cam. When I was in high school we would call it an AMV even if it wasn’t anime, but maybe you just say “edit” now.
When I do stuff like this, I occasionally indulge the intrusive thought that danny might find it somehow and get a kick out of it. But in this case I think I would also be mortified if someone who has been editing over 15 years and professionally for 10 perceived…..this. I feel like with any creative skill, no matter how hard you try as a novice, there will be so much you don’t know you don’t know. Until you’ve built up the mind and muscle memory to chunk together the basics, it’s too many oranges to carry, you just don’t have the bandwidth to hold in your mind all the things that go into sophisticated, professional work.
…I’m putting the perfectionism down now. Whatever else I really had fun making these videos – even if it isn’t a direct step forward into what I see myself doing, side projects can be a catalyst for a lot of fresh inspiration. Thank you, truly, if you do take the time to watch. It makes putting myself out there that much more fufilling. 💞
